Israel comes to NY's new tech hub
In December 2011, Cornell University and the Technion won a bid to build a $100 million engineering campus on Roosevelt Island in New York. "Ground is about to be broken for a top-flight technology campus that Mayor Michael Bloomberg promises will give other hubs of entrepreneurial science around the country, and indeed the world, 'a run for their money'."
It looks like high tech and digital innovation companies are on board with this partnership as well. Many Silicon Valley moguls are already making their presence known on the east coast in an effort to take advantage of the intellectual powerhouse that is brewing on the island.
One of the key factors behind this project is the backing of city hall and the Mayor, who both understand that the future of New York's success lies in diversifying its areas of expertise. The Cornell-Technion collaboration is the perfect way to bring the technology factor into play in the Big Apple.
So many more interesting details about the future of the campus can be found in Christopher Dickey's article "Roosevelt Island: New York's New Tech Hub."
